Sewing machine watch and bicycle

An installation made for the “wedding” project at the Para-site gallery in Hong Kong. “san-da-jian” or 3 big items, is a popular term to describe three very important and symbolic daily objects in the period of 60th and 70th in china – the wristwatch, the sewing machine, and the bicycle. These seemingly very different machines, made for different purpose, when taken apart into piece, reveal the most important common components - the gears which create the rotation and the coordinated movement. These components are then taken out and arranged to make a new abstract time-machine, as the “wedding-gift” of the new era….
