Tower of 23 Gardens

The Towers with 23 Gardens is one of the first portions of the BTCBD_City of Plazas to be constructed. The program is simple: 100,000sm of flexible office space. But one given is that it needs to incorporate a commercial base – a mega shop with its own standardized glass curtain wall. Instead of accepting it passively, OPEN takes this base as a contrast to the towers superimposed on top of it – a simple, light glass podium juxtaposed with a trio of heavy rock-like towers. 

To introduce a variety of public and semi public social spaces into normally super privatized and unfriendly office towers, thus creating chances for social interactions which have been proved by researches to greatly improve creativity and productivity at work places, two systems of social generators were incorporated into the towers, one horizontal and one vertical.

[collapsed]Framed by the 3 bended towers and on top of the glass podium, two large roof gardens lined up with shops cafes and a myriad of meeting spots make up the horizontal system of social spaces.

The vertical system of ‘social generator’ is composed of “7 boxes” stacked up skywards. Each of the boxes is about 2 to 3 floors high, with different spacial and programmatic configurations. Filled with light and greenery, and connecting both horizontal and vertical circulations, these semi-public sky gardens offer plenty of opportunities for social encounters and new vantage points of the city. In each of the 3 towers, 7 boxes stack up in different sequences to give them distinctively appearances yet well controlled complexity. At night, the “boxes” will become glowing lanterns that give another unique character to this group of towers.
