This year's WA Awards for Chinese Architecture announced its winners recently. OPEN's work Stepped Courtyards won the first prize of WA Housing Award; Beijing No.4 High School Fangshan Campus was shortlisted for WA City Regeneration Award; Meanwhile, Studio-X Beijing was shortlisted for WA Achievement Award.

Li Hu and Huang Wenjing, founding partners of OPEN, were selected as one of "50 Under 50: Innovators of the 21st Century". OPEN's works will be included in the book to be published by The Images Publishing Group (IMAGES) in 2015.

Li Hu was invited to give lectures at Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning, Chongqing University and Jia Xiang An Shan Art Museum in Chongqing. In the meantime, OPEN’s works were exhibited in the museum.


Li Hu was invited to be the jury for the Grand Review of International Exhibition of Architecture Graduate Design (IEAGD) in Taiwan, and attended the events held in Luodong Cultural Working House with architects Huang Shengyuan, Ryue Nishizawa etcs.


Beijing No.4 High School Fangshan Campus designed by OPEN Architecture has been completed and held its opening ceremony on Aug. 31st, 2014, four years after OPEN won the design competition in 2010, for this new campus of total building area of over 50,000sqms for 36 classes of students.

Re-thinking the Future Awards (RTFA) has announced its winners of 2014. OPEN’s work Ocean Base has won the Second Award of Institutional Concept Category. Four other OPEN projects won Awards or Honorable Mentions in other categories, including Garden School, Stepped Courtyards, Connection House and 2nd Ring 2049.

This year, the competition received huge participation from 83 Countries. It aims to bring out the most creative and innovative projects in the field of architecture and hence create an interactive educational platform of highest standards. Rethinking The Future is about envisioning a future that aims to meet human ‘needs’ while preserving the environment so that these ‘needs’ can be met not only in the present, but also for future generations.

OPEN was invited to be one of the three architectural teams designing the Chinese Pavilion at the 14th International Architecture Biennale – La Biennale di Venezia, with focus on the outdoor pavilion in the virgin garden.

LI Hu and HUANG Wenjing, Founding Partners of OPEN Architecture, attends the Official Opening and “Mountains beyond Mountains” Forum of the Chinese Pavilion at the 14th Venice Biennale on June 5th and 6th. In addition, several of OPEN’s recent architectural projects including the Beijing No. 4 School Fangshan Campus, Gehua Youth and Cultural Center and Tsinghua Ocean Center, are also featured in the exhibition inside the Chinese Pavilion.


Li Hu gave lectures about OPEN's Recent Works in Nanjing University, Tianjin University and Tsinghua University.

The video and scroll of OPEN’s 2nd Ring 2049 proposal were collected by M+ Museum, and were included in Building M+ , the new Hong Kong museum's first architecture exhibition.
