The publication of OPEN Questions, OPEN’s latest monograph, was celebrated this week at a book launch held at Tsinghua University. Published by Urban Environment Design (UED), this extensive survey of OPEN’s work covers some of OPEN’s representative projects across different types and scales, including the acclaimed Garden School (Beijing No. 4 High School Fangshan Campus); newly completed projects such as the UCCA Dune Art Museum; and even projects still under construction, like the Chapel of Sound.

After more than three years, OPEN’s UCCA Dune Art Museum has been completed. Located on a quiet stretch of beach in Qinhuangdao, the museum quietly disappears underneath the dunes into which it is carved— creating an intimate space for art hidden between the sea and the sand.

Two of OPEN’s works, the Garden School (Beijing No. 4 High School Fangshan Campus) and the recently completed Vertical Campus (Tsinghua Ocean Center) have been selected for the Italian exhibition “Metropoli Novissima.” Held in Naples, this major group showcase names OPEN as one of “the greatest protagonists of urbanism and international architecture”, and the Garden School and Vertical Campus as part of a handful of internationally relevant architectural works highlighting the sustainable redevelopment of urban suburbs.
